kostkaSlovak PPP Forum 2009

Cooperation between the public and private sector has a favoured position in Slovakia, in contrast to its Czech neighbours. The Slovak government pushes projects forward specifically in the transport infrastructure sector, however number of new projects emerge in other sectors too.

The positive attitude of the public sector towards PPP has gained a new perspective with the onset of the financial crisis and economic slowdown. Number of EU states recommend PPP projects, among other things, as a way to fight recession, and Slovakia seems to get on the board. Yet PPP project offer a solution: they can ease the sudden pressure on strained public budgets; they are relatively safe for banks; and the private sector, hit by the recession, can use its available capacities in PPP projects, thus ensuring employment. All it requires is courage, innovative thinking and determination.

What will the Slovak PPP Forum bring this year: Current status of PPP in the SR, presentation of “living” and new PPP projects in Slovakia – motorways, municipal and regional projects. News from abroad: Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, EPEC (European PPP Expertise Centre), etc.
As always, emphasis will be placed on currency, and discussions will be lively and interactive.
